Chairman of the House Committee on Aviation Technology, Abiodun Isiaq Akinlade, has reassured Nigerians of the safety of the nation’s airspace following Thursday's tragic helicopter crash in Port Harcourt, which claimed the lives of five NNPCL staff members and three others. In a statement from Abuja, Akinlade extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, praying for comfort and eternal rest for the departed souls.
Akinlade emphasized that, despite occasional challenges, both executive and legislative bodies are diligently working to ensure safe air travel across Nigeria. He praised the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), led by Captain Badeh, and other agencies for their swift response to the accident. The committee, he noted, expects a thorough investigation into the crash to help prevent future incidents.
Looking ahead, Akinlade announced plans for a National Aviation Summit aimed at addressing critical issues within the sector, reaffirming the committee’s commitment to upholding international safety standards for Nigeria’s airspace.
