The House of Representatives has granted approval for the extension of the implementation period for the capital component of the 2023 budget, as well as the lifespan of the 2023 Supplementary Appropriation. This decision extends the implementation deadline from March 31 to June 30, 2024.
President Bola Tinubu had requested the extension, which was conveyed in a letter read on the floor of the House by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen. The President emphasized the need for the extension to ensure the full implementation of the provisions of both acts.
During the debate on the President's request, Chief Whip of the House Usman Bello Kumo highlighted that the extension would allow the government to complete some legacy projects inherited from the previous administration. He emphasized that extending the budget and supplementary budget's lifespan is in the country's best interest.
