House of Representatives

Just days after hosting a national dialogue on Policing, the House of Representatives is set to convene a two-day retreat focusing on economic transformation and development. This initiative aims to enhance members' capacity in economic development and tax reform.

Scheduled to be declared open by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday, April 30, the retreat will take place at the Abuja Continental Hotel (formerly Abuja Sheraton). The theme, "Navigating change: Legislative strategies for economic transformation," underscores the event's significance in driving legislative agendas that prioritize economic growth and development.

Organized in collaboration with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), and Konrad-Adenauer Stiftung, the retreat seeks to deepen members' understanding of key economic drivers. This includes the role of the Petroleum Industry Act in transforming the oil and gas sector, exploring parliament's role in tax reforms, and emphasizing effective oversight in public financial management and tax administration.

Stakeholders expected at the event include top officials like Mele Kolo Kyari, Group CEO of NNPCL, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, and Dr. Orji Ogbonnaya Orji, Executive Secretary of NEITI. The retreat will also feature panel discussions and interactive sessions aimed at equipping participants with practical tools and strategies for impactful legislative and oversight work.
