The resumption of plenary for the House of Representatives has been postponed for the second time, now set for Tuesday, April 30, instead of the earlier scheduled date of Tuesday, April 23. Initially, the House was to reconvene on April 16 after the Easter and Sallah break, but the date was shifted to April 23 due to ongoing renovation work on the main chambers.
Clerk to the House, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, explained in an internal memo that the new adjustment aims to provide members with more time for constituency outreach, particularly for gathering input for the ongoing constitution review process.
The decision to extend the resumption date was based on the House Committee on Constitution Review's decision to push the deadline for submission of memoranda to April 30, 2024. According to House spokesman Akintunde Rotimi, the extension will also allow for better preparation for upcoming legislative summits on State Police and Tax Reforms, Revenue Enhancement, and Digital Transformation, scheduled within the next two weeks.
The Clerk expressed regret for any inconveniences caused by the rescheduling and emphasized the House's commitment to accountability and timely communication with all stakeholders, in line with the Legislative Agenda of the 10th Assembly.
