The House of Representatives has resolved to investigate the circumstances surrounding the escape of Nadeem Anjarwalla, one of the Binance executives detained for money laundering, from the custody of the National Security Adviser (NSA). Adopting a motion by Dominic Okafor, the House tasked its relevant committees to probe the detainee’s escape and identify those responsible.
Okafor recalled that Anjarwalla was arrested on February 26, 2024, for alleged money laundering and terrorism financing, with both Binance executives scheduled to appear in court on April 4, 2024. However, Anjarwalla's escape on March 22, 2024, from the NSA's custody raised concerns about the security measures in place.
The House emphasized the need to bring to justice those found guilty of aiding the escape. Anjarwalla was later arrested by the Kenyan Police on April 22, 2024, and is expected to be extradited to Nigeria by Interpol.
Additionally, a member of the House, Nkama Nkemkama, raised concerns about false bribery allegations leveled against the House by an unnamed company official. He clarified that the House has never had any dealings with the individual and called for an investigation to uncover the truth behind the allegation.
Speaker Abbas Tajudeen maintained that the House has never interfaced with Binance officials, contradicting claims of three failed attempts by the House Committee on Anti-Corruption to invite Binance representatives for an investigative hearing.
The House's decision to investigate the escape and address false bribery allegations underscores its commitment to upholding transparency and accountability in governance.
