The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to name the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after its former chairman, Prof. Humphrey Nwosu, recognizing his contributions to Nigeria’s political development. The House emphasized the importance of immortalizing Prof. Nwosu while he is still alive by bestowing a national honor and naming a national monument in his honor.

This motion of urgent public importance was brought forward by Peter Uzokwe and Nnabuife Clara. The House also recommended that Prof. Nwosu be invited to every Democracy Day celebration. Uzokwe recalled that Prof. Nwosu served as the chairman of the National Electoral Commission (NEC) from 1989 to 1993, appointed by former Military President Gen. Ibrahim Babangida.

Uzokwe highlighted previous efforts to honor those who fought for democracy, such as naming the Abuja National Stadium after the winner of the June 12, 1993 Presidential Election, MKO Abiola. He noted that former President Buhari showed remorse for the June 12, 1993 injustice by moving Democracy Day from May 29 to June 12, a change celebrated with pride by President Bola Tinubu, who was part of the June 12 struggle.

The lawmaker expressed concern over the continued neglect of Prof. Nwosu, who he said risked his life to ensure justice. Despite the national anthem's call to "build a nation where no man is oppressed," Uzokwe lamented that Prof. Nwosu has not been adequately celebrated while still alive.
