A devastating fire broke out on Wednesday, March 20, in the Nnamdi Azikwe and Docemo section of the Idumota Market in Lagos state, destroying goods worth millions of Naira. The blaze engulfed three buildings, including two two-storey structures and one three-storey building, known for housing shops selling clothes, bags, and shoes.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFS) confirmed the incident on its social media handle, stating that firefighters were swiftly deployed to the scene to contain the fire. Director of LSFRS, Margaret Adeseye, mentioned in a statement that the fire was reported at 07:41 hours and firefighters arrived at 07:58 hours to find the three buildings engulfed in flames.
Firefighting efforts are ongoing, with resources deployed from fire stations at Ebute Elefun, Ilupeju, and Alausa to mitigate the situation effectively. Adeseye emphasized that the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and investigations are underway. Thankfully, no casualties have been reported so far, and residents are advised to cooperate with emergency personnel and avoid the area for their safety.
