On Monday, members of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) staged a peaceful protest on the Rivers State section of the East-West Road. The demonstration was led by IYC President Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri Snr, Speaker of Council Comrd Bob Collins Igetei, and other IYC leaders from different flanks.
The protesters, emphasizing the economic significance of the East-West Road, called for its swift completion. They argued that the project is crucial for the economic well-being of the Niger Delta region and should be expedited without further delays.

The youth leaders urged the Federal Government to prioritize finishing the road as soon as possible. They warned that continued delays could lead to the complete shutdown of this critical transportation route, severely impacting the region's economy.
Highlighting the road's importance, the IYC stressed that immediate action is necessary to prevent disruptions and ensure smooth travel and commerce in the Niger Delta area. Their unified call reflects the broader community's urgent need for infrastructure development.
