The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) has announced a reduction in the tariff payable by its Band A customers from N225 per kilowatt-hour to N206.80/kWh. This adjustment, approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), will take effect from Monday, May 6, 2024.
In a statement by the IKEDC spokesperson, Olufadeke Omo-Omorodion, the DisCo assured Band A customers of a minimum of 20-hour daily power supply. However, the tariffs for customers on Bands B, C, D, and E remain unchanged.
The reduction in tariff for Band A customers comes after NERC's revision of the electricity tariff for this category from N68/kWh to N255/kWh on April 3. While this revision did not affect other customers, those in Band A have expressed concerns over the financial burden of the hike and have called for its reversal.
During an investigative hearing before the Senate Committee on Power, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, warned that failure to implement the electricity tariff hike could result in a total blackout in the country within the next three months.
