I’ll testify in Kanu’s trial if subpoenaed – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said he is ready to appear as a witness in the ongoing trial of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, if summoned by the court.

Wike made the comment on Friday during his monthly media chat in Abuja when asked about reports that Kanu had listed him among witnesses in his defence.

Kanu, who is currently standing trial at the Federal High Court, Abuja, had earlier informed the court of his intention to open his defence on October 24, 2025, and present 23 witnesses, including Wike, former Minister of Defence Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd.), and former Chief of Army Staff Gen. Tukur Buratai (retd.), among others.

Reacting to his inclusion, Wike said he never asked to be listed as a witness and had not received any formal court documents.

“If you see Nnamdi Kanu, you should ask him why he listed me. I didn’t go to him to say I want to be a witness,” Wike said. “Nobody has served me any process or subpoena. You don’t become a witness by reading newspaper reports.”

The minister, however, added that he would honour the court’s order if officially summoned.

“If I am served or subpoenaed to give evidence, I must obey the court. I will appear,” he stated.

Wike dismissed the idea of reacting prematurely to media reports, emphasising that he would not “run helter-skelter” over unconfirmed information.
