The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has won the November 8, 2025 Anambra State governorship election. The result was announced on Sunday in Awka by the INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Edoba Omoregie.
Soludo secured a total of 422,664 votes, defeating his closest challenger, the APC candidate, Nicholas Ukachukwu, who scored 99,445 votes. The Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate, Sir Paul Chukwuma, finished third with 37,753 votes.
INEC said 16 candidates contested the election.
Out of 2,788,864 registered voters, 598,229 were accredited. A total of 595,298 votes were cast, of which 584,054 were valid and 11,244 rejected.
Soludo delivered a sweeping victory, winning all 21 local government areas in the state.
While announcing the results, Prof. Omoregie said:
“The number of registered voters was 2,788,864, while accredited voters were 598,229. Total valid votes stood at 584,054, rejected votes were 11,244, and total votes cast amounted to 595,298.”
He explained that incidents in some wards in Anambra West, Anaocha, Awka South, and Onitsha South LGAs led to cancellations affecting 10,481 votes, but the margin of victory was large enough that the cancellations did not affect the final outcome.
He then declared:
“I, Prof. Edoba Omoregie, Returning Officer for the 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election, hereby declare that the election was peaceful. Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, having scored 422,664 votes — the highest number of valid votes cast and having satisfied the requirements of the law — is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”
