Iran’s First Vice President to Assume Presidency Following Ebrahim Raisi’s Death

Iran is set to witness a transition in its presidency following the tragic death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash. Mohammad Mokhber, the country's first Vice President, is expected to assume the presidency as Iran prepares for early elections.

According to a statement by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in accordance with Article 131 of the constitution, Mokhber is tasked with leading the executive branch. He will collaborate with the heads of the legislative and judicial branches to organize presidential elections within a maximum period of 50 days.

The Nation reported that Raisi was traveling with Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, who also lost his life in the accident. Rescue teams had been searching for the missing helicopter since Sunday afternoon before locating it early Monday. State television confirmed Raisi's death, describing him as a "servant of the Iranian nation" who had achieved the highest level of martyrdom while serving the people.
