JAMB extends 2025 public universities’ admissions deadline to Nov 17

Abuja — The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the deadline for the 2025 admission exercise in public universities from Friday, October 31, 2025, to Monday, November 17, 2025.

The board made this known in a statement released by its Public Communication Adviser, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, who explained that the extension was necessary due to unforeseen circumstances that affected the timely completion of admissions in some institutions.

JAMB recalled that during the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions held on July 18, 2025, and chaired by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, all public universities were initially directed to complete admissions by the end of October.

The timeline, the board noted, was meant to allow other tertiary institutions—such as private universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and innovation enterprise institutions—to finalise their admissions before the national closing date of December 31, 2025.

However, JAMB said the new extension was granted for two major reasons.

First, an appeal by the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) highlighted the impact of a recent court injunction that temporarily halted the 2025/2026 admission process. The injunction was only lifted on October 28, 2025.

Second, the National Universities Commission (NUC) recently approved 229 new academic programmes across 37 universities on October 29, 2025, making it necessary for schools to reschedule admissions for those new courses.

“In light of these developments, and to ensure fairness and inclusiveness, the Board hereby extends the deadline for the completion of 2025 public university admissions to Monday, November 17, 2025,” the statement read.

Dr. Benjamin stressed that this new deadline is final and binding, urging all public universities to adhere strictly to it.

He commended the institutions that had worked hard to meet the initial deadline and reaffirmed JAMB’s commitment to a transparent, credible, and efficient admission process that balances national education goals with institutional autonomy.
