Businessman and senator representing Ondo South Senatorial District, Jimoh Ibrahim, has taken legal action against the nomination of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the November 16 governorship election in the state.
In a suit filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, Ibrahim seeks to void Aiyedatiwa's candidacy, alleging that the APC's primary election process, which led to Aiyedatiwa's emergence, was unlawful and marred by irregularities. Ibrahim claims that the primary election violated constitutional and electoral provisions, as some delegates who could have voted for him were not accredited.
Ibrahim is requesting the court to restrain the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from accepting Aiyedatiwa's nomination and to prohibit Aiyedatiwa from presenting himself as the APC's candidate. He also seeks to annul the primary election and compel the APC to conduct a fresh one in accordance with the law.
During the court proceedings, Ibrahim's lawyer, Chris Uche (SAN), requested substituted service for all documents related to the case to be served on the defendants, including Aiyedatiwa. The court granted the request, ordering the documents to be delivered to the APC's National Headquarters in Abuja within two days. The case has been adjourned to 14th May 2024 for further mention.
