Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, representing Ondo South Senatorial District, has announced plans by President Bola Tinubu’s administration to deploy Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to address Nigeria’s security challenges in 2025. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Affairs emphasized that the ₦4.91 trillion allocation for defence and security in Tinubu’s budget proposal underscores the administration’s commitment to combating insecurity.
Ibrahim described the coming year as “tough for criminals,” noting plans to develop apps capable of tracking bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists. He expressed optimism about the transformative impact of these technologies, stating, “AI will assist security personnel in making life uncomfortable for these elements.”
The ₦49.7 trillion budget proposal presented by President Tinubu also prioritizes infrastructure (₦4.06 trillion), health (₦2.4 trillion), and education (₦3.5 trillion). Ibrahim argued that improving security would boost crude oil production, driving economic growth. “With ₦5 trillion spent on security, we’ll achieve more peace and produce more oil, leading to increased revenue,” he said.
Acknowledging Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges, the senator commended the Federal Government’s efforts, citing improved indices and the absence of Boko Haram-controlled territories. “The security index has improved under Tinubu. No city or local government wears the Boko Haram flag today,” Ibrahim remarked, crediting the military and police for their diligence in restoring safety nationwide.
