Joint Security Force Apprehends ‘Native Doctor’ Linked to IPOB and ESN in Anambra

The Joint Security Force (JSF) in Anambra State has arrested a native doctor allegedly preparing charms for members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN). The arrest took place on Monday in Ufuma, Orumba North Local Government Area.

According to a statement from the Anambra Police Command, the arrest followed ongoing intelligence reports about planned attacks on security agents and innocent citizens by the IPOB and ESN. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, shared this information with reporters in Awka.

Among the four suspects apprehended is 32-year-old Maduabuchi Nwafor, also known as 'Omenkpo', a native of Ufuma. Nwafor is identified as a key figure who prepares criminal charms for the group and uses his shrine for initiation ceremonies and as a meeting point for criminals.

One of the suspects, whose name is withheld, has already started assisting the police with information. He confessed to being one of the gunmen dispatched by the group to enforce an illegal sit-at-home order on May 30th, 2024.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has ordered a thorough investigation to uncover more hideouts and activities of the insurgents aiming to destabilize the state. He reassured the people of Anambra (Ndi Anambra) that the Police Command is committed to serving the public selflessly and protecting informants from any potential harm.

SP Ikenga Tochukwu emphasized the importance of community support and collaboration in maintaining peace and security in the state. He assured that the Police Command will continue to prioritize the safety and development of Anambra State, urging citizens to provide any useful information that could assist in curbing criminal activities. The proactive measures and swift response by the Joint Security Force reflect the ongoing efforts to combat insurgency and ensure the safety and well-being of residents in Anambra State.
