Kaduna State Spends N4bn Annually on School Feeding to Combat Out-of-School Rates

The Special Assistant to the Kaduna State Governor on School Feeding, Dr. Fauziya Buhari-Ado, revealed that the state allocates N4 billion annually for school feeding to address the rising number of out-of-school children. In a statement released in Abuja on Sunday, Buhari-Ado highlighted the impact of the program, which benefits over 25,000 students in 51 boarding schools across the state’s 23 local government areas.

The initiative, which increased the feeding cost from N540 to N700 per child per day, has significantly boosted school enrollment and daily attendance rates. Buhari-Ado emphasized that sourcing food from local farmers and vendors has stimulated the local economy, providing a stable market and contributing to economic growth within the state.

Buhari-Ado reiterated her commitment to ensuring compliance with menu guidelines, food quality, quantity, hygiene standards, and timely service delivery. She noted that the state government has saved millions of naira through transparent verification of the program's beneficiaries. This success underscores Governor Sani’s vision and dedication to the well-being of Kaduna State's residents.

"The school feeding program has alleviated the burden on parents, ensuring no child goes hungry," Buhari-Ado stated. She emphasized that the initiative fosters unity among children from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds, reinforcing the state's strength through communal harmony. Additionally, the program has created opportunities for local vendors and suppliers, stimulating local economic growth and providing about 20 million free meals annually.
