Governor Abba Yusuf has accepted the resignation of Kano State Commissioner for Water Resources, Umar Doguwa.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House Kano, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa. According to the statement, Doguwa formally submitted his resignation on Monday, March 2, 2026, with immediate effect.
Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation for Doguwa’s service, describing him as a committed and loyal public servant who contributed meaningfully to the administration.
Before his appointment to the Ministry of Water Resources, Doguwa had served as Commissioner for Education, where he played a key role in implementing educational reforms, including the declaration of a state of emergency in the sector. He was later redeployed to oversee the water resources portfolio.
Within a year at the ministry, the government said notable progress was made in rehabilitating water facilities and expanding access to potable water across several communities in the state. The governor also credited Doguwa with strengthening institutional capacity and improving service delivery in line with the administration’s goal of ensuring sustainable water supply.

Describing him as disciplined and hardworking, Yusuf wished Doguwa success in his future endeavours and assured residents that the government would sustain the gains recorded in the water sector.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining uninterrupted water supply and improving the welfare of Kano residents.
Following the resignation, Yusuf directed the Commissioner for Education, Gwani Dr. Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, to supervise the Ministry of Water Resources pending the appointment or redeployment of a substantive commissioner.
