Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf of Kano State has urged President Bola Tinubu to reopen land borders to boost food security in Nigeria. Speaking during a visit by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Mr. Adewale Adeniyi, Kabir-Yusuf highlighted the importance of reopening borders to mitigate inflation and lower food prices amid harsh economic conditions.
Kabir-Yusuf expressed appreciation for the president's intervention in the national food initiative, noting Kano as the initiative's host ahead of its launch. He emphasized the need for immediate action to make food more available and affordable, suggesting that allowing free importation of commodities through border reopening could help achieve this.
While endorsing the call to reopen borders, the governor commended the Customs' food distribution scheme and emphasized the need for vigilance to prevent diversion of commodities. He pledged ongoing support to the Service to ensure effective discharge of its mandate. Adeniyi, in turn, emphasized the NCS's commitment to addressing food insecurity and hardship in Nigeria.
