Kano Govt Trains 380 Youths to Combat Phone Snatching, Thuggery

The Kano State Government has commenced the training of 380 youths under its newly established Special Anti-Phone Snatching and VIP Protection Guards, as part of efforts to curb rising urban crimes in the state.

The two-week intensive training, which kicked off at the Kano State Corporate Security Institute, Gabasawa, is the first phase of a programme targeting 600 recruits.

Director of Public Relations and Enlightenment at the Ministry of Internal Security and Special Services, Muhammad Idris, in a statement on Monday, said the training is designed to provide the youths with skills and discipline to support security agencies in maintaining law and order.

Commandant of the institute, Retired Captain Muhammad Bello Mai Gaskiya, explained that the training would cover areas such as phone snatching prevention, VIP protection, defensive driving, parade drills, and physical fitness. He added that participants would also receive lectures from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and counselling sessions by Hisbah personnel.

Mai Gaskiya charged the trainees to be diligent, stressing that their role would be vital in restoring peace and security across Kano communities.

Upon completion, the volunteers will be officially absorbed into the state government’s security framework and receive a monthly stipend.

A cross-section of the trainees expressed appreciation to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the opportunity, pledging to serve with commitment.
