The Kano State Police Command has intensified security measures ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations, assuring residents of the safety of lives and property across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, gave the assurance on Monday during a meeting with operational commanders, including heads of departments, area and tactical commanders, as well as divisional police officers, to finalise security plans for the festive season.
Bakori said the steps were in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, which requires all police commands nationwide to ensure a peaceful, crime-free celebration.
“We have concluded comprehensive security arrangements to ensure that Kano residents enjoy the festive period without fear,” he said.
According to him, the strategy centres on intensified patrols, increased police visibility, intelligence-driven operations and confidence-building engagements with the public.
He explained that adequate personnel and operational assets have been deployed, in collaboration with other security agencies, to secure worship centres, recreational spots, major highways and residential areas before, during and after the celebrations.
The commissioner also directed commanders to sustain round-the-clock patrols, strengthen intelligence gathering and ensure effective traffic control to allow free movement across the state.
Bakori warned that the police would not tolerate any act capable of disturbing public peace, stressing that unauthorised horse riding and the use of fireworks remain banned during the festive period.

“The police will deal decisively with anyone whose actions threaten public safety or disrupt law and order,” he said.
The command further advised residents to stay alert, report suspicious activities, avoid reckless driving and ensure proper supervision of children during outings.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Kiyawa, called on residents to cooperate with security agencies and promptly report emergencies through the designated police hotlines.
He assured the public that the command is fully prepared to respond swiftly to any security threat throughout the festive season.
