A businessman at Dawanau grain market in Kano metropolis recently found himself in an unusual situation when he mistakenly transferred N10 million, instead of N10,000, to a Point of Sale (POS) Operator. Fortunately, his honesty paid off, and he was able to recover his money.
The incident occurred on December 21 last year when the trader transferred N10 million to 37-year-old Mohammed Sani Abdulrahman, a POS operator, thinking he was transferring N10,000. However, neither party initially realized the error.
It wasn't until Abdulrahman noticed an excess of N9,990,000 in his POS business account that he reported the transaction to the police. After three months of investigation, the police were able to identify the businessman as the rightful owner of the excess money.
The businessman was paid the N9,990,000 on Thursday, through his account, effectively recovering his N10 million, minus the N10,000 he had originally intended to transfer. Kano Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel, commended Abdulrahman for his honesty and the businessman for admitting his mistake and working with the police to recover the funds.
