Kano Sets Up Special Task Force to Secure Motor Parks, Public Areas

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has approved the immediate creation of a Special Task Force to tackle security threats at motor parks and other key public spaces across the state.

The decision was announced on Sunday in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, who said the move reflects the administration’s resolve to prevent criminal infiltration and strengthen security, especially at major entry and exit points in Kano.

According to the statement, motor parks have been identified as high-risk areas due to heavy human traffic and recent security incidents, including the arrest of suspected criminals at Kofar Ruwa Motor Park. The task force will focus on intensive surveillance, intelligence gathering, and coordinated security operations.

Its mandate will also cover surrounding areas such as filling stations and other public places where large numbers of people often gather.

Governor Yusuf described the initiative as a proactive step aimed at stopping threats before they escalate, improving collaboration among security agencies, and restoring public confidence. He reaffirmed his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on criminal activities and pledged full support for security agencies in their efforts to protect lives and property.

The move comes amid a recent rise in insecurity in Kano, including bandit attacks in rural local government areas such as Tsanyawa and Shanono, where residents have faced abductions and assaults.

In response, the state government has stepped up security measures. On December 2, Governor Yusuf led top security officials to inspect Joint Task Force operational bases in affected communities, promising better logistics, improved infrastructure, and community-based initiatives to strengthen local security.

The Kano State Police Command has also introduced stricter measures, including a ban on motorcycle passenger operations in nine metropolitan local government areas and restrictions on commercial tricycle movements between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., effective from December 1.
