Kano Slashes Election Form Fees After Court Ruling

Kano

The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has reduced the fees for local government election forms following a court ruling. Chairmanship forms now cost N9 million, down from N10 million, while councillor forms have been reduced to N4 million from N5 million. The fee adjustment also applies to running mates.

KANSIEC Chairman, Professor Sani Lawal Malumfashi, explained that although the commission has the mandate to set prices, they respected the court’s decision. He noted that the forms are now available in banks for candidates to purchase.

The decision follows a legal challenge by opposition parties, who deemed the initial fees excessive. A court order restrained the commission from imposing the original charges, leading to the price reduction.

Malumfashi commended the opposition parties for participating in the upcoming October 26 elections and urged candidates to run issue-based campaigns. He assured that the election would be free, fair, and credible.
