Katsina State Reviews Curfew Amid Improved Security

Katsina

Katsina State Acting Governor, Faruk Lawal, announced on Monday the review of the 24-hour restriction of movement order in Dutsinma Local Government Area, along with adjustments to the curfew in 33 other Local Government Areas. The new curfew hours are now from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am.

The review follows a report indicating an improved security situation in Dutsinma. Despite the easing of the curfew, Lawal emphasized that the ban on unusual gatherings and all types of protests remains in effect across the state. He commended security agents for their handling of the hoodlums who hijacked peaceful protests to commit criminal activities. Lawal also expressed gratitude to parents, guardians, and community leaders for cautioning their children and youths against joining the miscreants.

The Katsina State Security Council announced the arrest of several youths in connection with recent violence, lootings, and vandalization of public and private property. Secretary to the Government of Katsina State, Barrister Abdullahi Garba Faskari, stated that some of those arrested have already been charged to court for alleged criminal conspiracy, causing public disturbance, vandalization, and theft.

Faskari urged the public to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring them that the government is taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of lives and property.

The curfews were initially imposed following the violent turn of the nationwide protests. Lawal had enforced a 24-hour curfew on Dutsinma LGA and a 12-hour curfew on the remaining 33 LGAs as measures to restore peace in the state.

These developments reflect the state government's efforts to balance maintaining public order and security while addressing the underlying issues driving the protests.
