Two students from the Federal University Wukari who were kidnapped two weeks ago have been freed, according to Mrs. Ashu Agbu, the Head of the Information and Protocol Unit at the institution. The students, Joshua Sardauna and Obianu Elizabeth, were abducted on April 3 near the school premises. They had returned to the university to re-sit their exams due to carry-overs from the previous session when the incident occurred.

The details of their release were not provided by Mrs. Agbu. Last week, the abductors had demanded a ransom of N50 million for their release. The students were taken by gunmen suspected to be armed Fulani herdsmen while they were eating at a food vendor shop on campus.

The Chief Security Officer of the university, Mr. Sule Gani, confirmed the abduction, describing the attackers as armed Fulani herdsmen. The incident highlighted the security challenges faced by universities and communities in Taraba State. The students' return marks a relief for the university community, although the circumstances of their release remain unclear.
