Kwara Gov Holds Emergency Security Meeting, Vows Tougher Action Against Insecurity

AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Monday chaired a high-level security council meeting in Ilorin as the state intensifies efforts to curb rising insecurity.

The marathon meeting brought together heads of all security agencies — including the Police, DSS, Army, Navy, Air Force, NSCDC, Immigration, and NDLEA — alongside top government officials such as the Secretary to the State Government and the Attorney General.

According to a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, commanders reported multiple arrests, prosecutions, and the interception of illegal arms from non-state actors across the state.

“The governor received extensive briefings on ongoing operations and expressed his appreciation for the sacrifices of the security agencies,” the statement read. “He urged continued vigilance and encouraged residents to provide timely and actionable intelligence.”

The meeting comes amid growing concern over attacks in parts of Kwara South and Igbomina land. In reaction, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, called on Governor AbdulRazaq to establish a state-backed security outfit similar to Amotekun in the South-West to complement federal forces.
