Kwara Schools to Reopen January 5, Excluding Areas Under Special Security Measures

The Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development has announced that schools across the state will reopen on Monday, January 5, 2026, with the exception of areas currently under special security surveillance.

The directive was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the ministry’s Press Secretary, Peter Amogbonjaye. According to the statement, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Lawal Oloriegbe, approved the resumption for all public and private primary and secondary schools, excluding locations earlier identified as security-sensitive.

“We welcome our children and teachers back to school across the state. Learning activities are to resume immediately in all but areas earlier identified as being under special security surveillance,” the commissioner said.

Dr Oloriegbe explained that the phased reopening was necessary to ensure the safety of pupils and students while security operations continue in some parts of the state.

“This structured school resumption is designed to keep our children out of harm’s way amid renewed security operations. Normal school activities will resume in such places very soon,” he added.
