The newly elected Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Lasbat Mojisola Meranda, has vowed to prioritize the needs of Lagosians while fostering transparency and good governance. Speaking during her inaugural plenary on Friday, January 17, Meranda reaffirmed her administration's commitment to unity and progress, urging stakeholders to focus on building a brighter future for the state.
Meranda emphasized the shared responsibility of lawmakers to uphold the trust placed in them by Lagos residents. “We are the guardians of this collective trust, and we must strive to justify the faith they have placed in us,” she said, pledging harmonious collaboration with other arms of government to deliver democracy effectively. She further assured inclusivity, stating, “Every Lagos resident, irrespective of gender, education, religion, or ethnicity, should be proud to say, ‘I am a Lagosian.’”
The Speaker urged lawmakers to lead by example, demonstrating integrity, transparency, and accountability in their duties. She highlighted the importance of working together to create a legacy that would inspire confidence and pride among the people of Lagos.
During the session, Meranda announced new principal officers, including Hon. Adewale Temitope Adedeji as Majority Leader, Hon. Richard Kasumu as Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. David Setonji as Chief Whip, and Hon. Semiu Okanlawon as Deputy Chief Whip, setting the tone for a fresh legislative agenda.
