Lagos Government to Begin Eight-Month Road Rehabilitation on Lekki–Ajah Corridor

Lagos

The Lagos State Government has announced that major road rehabilitation works will begin on the Lekki–Ajah corridor starting Saturday, November 15, 2025, and will continue until Wednesday, July 15, 2026 — a period of eight months.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the project aims to enhance road quality, reduce congestion, and improve the overall driving experience along one of Lagos’ busiest routes.

Osiyemi explained that the rehabilitation will be carried out in two phases to reduce disruptions for motorists and businesses in the area. Preliminary works, he noted, are already in progress.

Phase 1: Lekki 1st Toll Gate to Lekki 2nd Toll Gate

This phase will cover seven sections of the expressway. During construction, one of the two lanes will be closed, while the other will remain open to allow traffic flow.

“When the closed lane is completed, work will shift to the other lane,” the commissioner stated, assuring that motorists traveling between Lekki and Ajah will still be able to move throughout the phase.

Phase 2: Lekki 2nd Toll Gate to Ajah Under-Bridge

The second phase will focus on four sections of the road. Traffic diversions will be introduced to maintain movement.

“Motorists from Ajah inward Lekki will be diverted to one lane while repairs are ongoing on the other. When the first lane is completed, work will move to the second,” the statement read.

The government assured that vehicles heading toward Ajah will have continuous movement during this phase.

Advice to Motorists

The Lagos State Government appealed to residents and road users for patience, noting that while the rehabilitation may cause temporary inconvenience, it will ultimately lead to smoother travel and better infrastructure.

“Some sections of the road will be partially closed during the repair period. Motorists are advised to be patient and follow traffic directions,” Osiyemi said.

He reaffirmed that the rehabilitation aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to sustainable urban mobility and infrastructure renewal across the state.

The commissioner also urged commuters to plan their trips ahead and comply with traffic management officials who will be stationed along the route to ensure free vehicular movement throughout the project duration.

Earlier in September, the state had commenced similar rehabilitation works along the Eti-Osa/Lekki/Epe Expressway, covering the stretch from Admiralty Way Junction to Jubilee Bridge in Ajah.
