The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a private school teacher, Stella Nwadigo, for allegedly assaulting a three-year-old pupil, Michael Abayomi, during school hours in Ikorodu Local Government Area.
Nwadigo, a teacher at Christ-Mitots School in the Isawo area of Ikorodu, was apprehended after a video surfaced online showing her repeatedly beating the child for failing to write the numbers 16 and 62 correctly. The less-than-three-minute clip, which drew widespread criticism, captured the pupil standing before the teacher as the assault occurred.
Law enforcement officers arrested Nwadigo on Wednesday afternoon at the school premises. The police emphasized that her arrest was intended to serve as a deterrent to other educators in the state.
