Lagos Reopens Ojota/Maryland Sections of Odo Iya Alaro Bridge, Declares Zero Tolerance for Infrastructure Abuse

Lagos

The Lagos State Government has reopened the Ojota and Maryland sections of the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge to vehicular traffic, following early completion of rehabilitation works. The reopening was led by Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat on Monday, September 16.

Hamzat expressed concern over the frequent theft of manhole covers and bridge equipment, announcing that the government has now switched to using fibre for manhole covers instead of steel to deter theft. He warned that anyone caught stealing these covers would be prosecuted.

Hamzat emphasized the importance of maintaining infrastructure, noting that the bridge's expansion joints had been repaired, and new fibre-made manhole covers were installed for public safety. He also highlighted the government's commitment to improving road and bridge infrastructure to reduce travel time and eliminate gridlocks.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola, credited the early completion to the government’s eagerness to ease road users' suffering, while Commissioner for Works, Hon. Oluwasegun Osiyemi, praised the project’s timely conclusion, which was completed in under two months.
