Lagos Shuts Down Lekki Nightclub Over Noise Pollution

Authorities in Lagos have sealed off Light House Club, a popular nightlife spot on Admiralty Way, Lekki, for repeatedly violating the state’s noise pollution regulations.

The enforcement action was carried out on Monday by a joint team from the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps and the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), following multiple ignored warnings.

Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the closure in a post on X (formerly Twitter), declaring the state’s zero-tolerance stance on environmental infractions.

“The club was sealed after persistent breaches of noise pollution laws, despite repeated notices,” Wahab said, adding that the shutdown would remain in place until the venue installs proper soundproofing and proves compliance with acceptable noise levels.

He issued a stern warning to other entertainment venues across the state:

“Our environmental laws are not optional. The rights of Lagosians to peace and quiet will always come before profit.”

The move underscores the government’s renewed crackdown on noise pollution, particularly in high-density residential areas where nightclubs and lounges often operate close to homes.
