Lagos State Launches Massive Red Rail Line

The inauguration of the Lagos Red Rail Line marked a significant milestone in Lagos State's transportation sector. The project, initiated by the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration in mid-2021, aims to ease transportation challenges in the state. The first phase of the Red Line, stretching from Oyingbo to Agbado, can transport 250,000 passengers daily, with a travel time one hour less than by road.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who initiated the project over 20 years ago, praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for his commitment to improving transportation in Lagos. The completion of the second phase, linking the Red Line with the Blue Line, was also announced at the event.

Governor Sanwo-Olu described the project as a culmination of efforts to reform Lagos State's transportation sector, highlighting the Strategic Transport Master Plan (STMP) that outlines the integrated rail system's vision. The project includes the construction of five overpasses to ensure smooth traffic flow.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by dignitaries including governors, business leaders, and traditional rulers. The project signifies a major step towards improving transportation infrastructure in Lagos and demonstrates the government's commitment to enhancing connectivity and mobility in the state.
