The Lagos State Ministry of Environment's Monitoring, Enforcement, and Compliance Department demolished a restaurant structure located on a drainage setback along Ademola Tokunbo Street, Victoria Island.
According to the state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the structure was made from two 20-foot imported containers placed on the setback and reinforced with Plaster of Paris. The drainage behind the containers was sealed with metal sheets and turned into a septic tank.
Wahab stated in a post that the occupants were served an abatement notice, and the structures were marked for removal. The containers were subsequently removed, and the drainage was cleared.
In a similar action, the government recently removed illegal structures on setbacks on Fafunwa Street, Victoria Island, following the dislodgement of mechanics on MacGregor Road in Ikoyi, prompted by public complaints and non-compliance with notices served on them.
