The late Nigerian music legend, Onyeka Onwenu, fondly known as the "Elegant Stallion," will be laid to rest today in Lagos. Onwenu passed away on July 30 after collapsing at an event honoring Dr. Stella Okoli, the Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals. She was 72 years old.
The funeral service, as announced by her family, will be held at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, followed by a private burial at a vault in Ikoyi. The Service of Songs is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, with the burial set to take place between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Onyeka Onwenu was a beloved singer, songwriter, and actress, whose contributions to Nigerian music and culture have left an indelible mark. Her passing has been met with an outpouring of grief and tributes from fans, colleagues, and dignitaries across the nation.
