Lawyer Warns: Nigeria’s Sovereignty Under Siege Amid Seized Presidential Jets and Debt Crisis

Human rights activist and lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has expressed deep concern over the sovereignty of Nigeria following reports of the seizure of three Nigerian presidential jets in France. These jets, which were undergoing maintenance in Paris, were reportedly seized on August 15, 2024, in compliance with a court order.

Ejiofor criticized the Nigerian government's habit of excessive borrowing, warning that it could lead to a situation where Nigeria's assets, and even its citizens, could be subjected to foreign judgments. He described the incident as an "international disgrace" and emphasized that Nigeria's sovereignty is under serious threat due to the growing mountain of debt.

He urged Nigerians to pay closer attention to the country's financial and sovereign integrity, suggesting that the ongoing borrowing spree could have disastrous consequences for the nation. Ejiofor's comments reflect a broader concern about the sustainability of Nigeria's debt and the potential risks it poses to the country's independence and global standing.
