Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has declared that there is hunger in the country, stating that the current situation does not reflect where the nation and its people should be. He made this declaration while speaking during the signing of the Executive Bill establishing the Oyo State Mobilisation Agency for Socio-Economic Development (OYMASED).

Makinde emphasized that his administration will continue to prioritize economic development in order to solve major challenges in the state. He announced the appointment of a former Commissioner for Education in the state, Dr. Morohunkola Thomas, as the Director General of the agency.

The governor noted that the establishment of the agency is in line with his stance that the administration will not only be defined by the massive infrastructure it has built but by the strong institutions it has put in place. He further stated that a government cannot win the people's trust if it does not clearly communicate where it is taking the people.

Makinde appealed to leaders across the country to create a framework to harness the nation's potential through mobilisation, sensitisation, and advocacy. He emphasized that as a country, prioritizing production is crucial, and this cannot be achieved without mobilising the people behind the desired goals. The governor believes that when the productive base is broadened, it will contribute to taking the people out of poverty and into prosperity.
