Manchester United’s struggles got worse on Saturday after they were beaten 3-1 by Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium, adding more heat on manager Ruben Amorim.

Brentford came flying out of the blocks, with Igor Thiago scoring twice inside 20 minutes — first beating the offside trap to slot home, then reacting quickest to a rebound to make it 2-0.

United briefly fought back when Benjamin Šeško bundled one in during a goalmouth scramble, but their hopes of a comeback faded in the second half. Bruno Fernandes had the chance to level things up from the penalty spot, but his effort was saved by Caoimhín Kelleher.

In stoppage time, Brentford wrapped it up. Mathias Jensen broke away on the counter and fired in a brilliant strike from distance to seal the 3-1 win.

For Brentford, it was a huge result and a lift in confidence. For United, it’s another setback, coming just a week after beating Chelsea — and Amorim’s job now looks even more uncertain heading into the international break.
