In a major political shake-up, the Deputy Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Yunusa Umar, has led 7,500 APC members, including key party executives, in a mass defection to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Key APC Leaders Dump Party for PDP
Umar was joined in the defection by:
- APC Youth Leader, Yusuf Inuwa Bora
- APC Welfare Secretary, Isah Zakaria
The defectors were formally received at a PDP-hosted reception by the party’s local chairman, Hon. Yusuf Sabo, and the Executive Chairman of Dass LGA, Hon. Mohammed Abubakar Jibo.
Why They Left APC
Speaking at the defection ceremony, Umar cited Governor Bala Mohammed’s leadership as the primary reason for their decision.
"Governor Bala Mohammed’s policies since 2019 have convinced us to align with PDP. The interests of our supporters come first, and we believe PDP truly prioritizes the welfare of the people," he declared.
The defectors pledged their full support for PDP in the upcoming elections, highlighting that Governor Mohammed’s developmental strides have outshined the tenure of APC’s Yakubu Dogara, who once held the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives.
PDP Leaders Welcome Defectors
Hon. Mohammed Abubakar Jibo, Executive Chairman of Dass LGA, assured the defectors of full integration into PDP, urging them to work together in advancing the party’s vision for Dass and Bauchi State.
This mass defection marks a significant boost for PDP in Bauchi State, strengthening its political dominance ahead of the next general election.
