Kylian Mbappé moved to within one goal of making history as France secured a convincing win over Brazil in an international friendly at Gillette Stadium.
The Real Madrid forward opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, racing onto a precise through pass from Ousmane Dembélé before calmly lifting the ball over goalkeeper Ederson. The goal took Mbappé’s tally to 56 in just 95 appearances for France, leaving him one short of equalling Olivier Giroud’s all-time national record of 57.
Making his return to the starting lineup after recovering from a knee injury, Mbappé looked sharp and lively, creating several chances in the first half. He came close to extending his tally but missed two attempts before being substituted in the 66th minute for Marcus Thuram.
France faced a setback in the second half when defender Dayot Upamecano was sent off for a last-man foul on Brazil’s Wesley just outside the penalty area. Despite being reduced to 10 men, Didier Deschamps’s side remained composed and extended their lead.
