The Middle Belt Forum, MBF, has declared its confidence in former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, describing him as a man of integrity who can be trusted to honour his promise of serving a single four-year term if elected president in 2027. MBF National President, Dr. Bitrus Pogu, said the group had no reason to doubt Obi’s commitment, citing his record of keeping promises. Pogu stressed that the assurance was not a political ploy to sway support, but a reflection of Obi’s character, adding that the Middle Belt believed he would keep his word “to the letter.” While noting that the length of a leader’s tenure should ideally be determined by the constitution and voters, Pogu said the priority now was Obi’s credibility and honour.
Meanwhile, the Obidient Movement is gaining momentum in Ibadan ahead of the 2027 elections. Over the weekend, members converged for the Oyo State Obidient Conference themed “Going Forward 2027: A New Nigeria is Possible” at the Empowerment Centre, Ring Road. The gathering drew loyalists, analysts, and grassroots organisers from across the state. In his keynote, University of Ibadan linguist Prof. Francis Egbokhare described Nigeria as “a giant lying prostrate, trampled by dwarfs,” lamenting poor governance, wasteful spending, and propaganda-driven leadership. He urged the movement to restructure the national mindset, build strategies rooted in integrity, and harness the country’s vast talent to address insecurity, corruption, and underdevelopment.
National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, dismissed rumours of Obi’s defection, affirming his Labour Party membership and single-term pledge. He said Obi’s plan was to “set the tone, restore hope, and pass the baton to a leadership class that understands service,” adding that many of Nigeria’s challenges could be addressed within the first year of purposeful leadership. Oyo State Coordinator, Ayo Akinyemi, described the conference as a turning point for members to unite behind a shared vision for change, portraying Obi as the leader capable of delivering it.
