Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, has emphasized the Federal Government's commitment to empowering farmers through mechanization to drive economic diversification. He highlighted that the government's focus on mechanization is not only for technological advancement but also to enhance skills and knowledge to meet global agricultural demands.
Speaking at a Special Agro Equipment/Agro Expo organized by Eurobase Consult in collaboration with the ministry, Kyari, represented by Director II Agric Business and Marketing, Gagare Nadungu, stressed the importance of strategic planning and conscious investments in agriculture to achieve diversification. He emphasized the need to support small and medium enterprises in the sector and create an enabling environment for innovation.
The minister reiterated that the deployment of mechanization aligns with President Bola Tinubu's objectives and extends beyond technological advancement. He stated, "It is about empowering farmers with the knowledge, skills, and tools to succeed in their businesses and meet global market demands." This approach, he added, is in line with the "Renewed Hope Agenda" of the President, focusing on sustainable agribusiness practices that protect natural resources and the environment.
Managing Director of Eurobase Consult, Don Ekesiobi, highlighted the limitations of traditional farming practices in meeting the increasing demands of a changing world. He emphasized that factors such as climate change, population growth, and resource constraints necessitate a shift towards mechanization to enhance agricultural productivity and resilience.
