In a bid to bolster the ongoing efforts to curb kidnappings in Abuja, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has allocated 60 motorcycles to the Vigilance Group of Nigeria (VGN). During a ceremony in Abuja on Monday, Wike also distributed 30 motorcycles to the Nigeria Police, and five each to the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Emphasizing the importance of strategic deployment, Wike cautioned that the motorcycles should be used in remote areas of the FCT to tackle insecurity, not in urban centers. He urged the VGN to collaborate with the Police and other security agencies, especially in rural areas, to combat crime effectively.

Acknowledging the VGN's dedication to safeguarding lives and property in Abuja, Wike stated, "Security agencies requested specialized motorcycles for rural areas. The vigilance teams will use them in the six Area Councils, with logistics support provided." He stressed the importance of responsible usage and warned against misuse or commercial use within the city limits.

Wike reiterated his commitment to prioritizing security, stating, "We have promised the residents of Abuja and the Area Councils that security is a priority for the Renewed Hope Agenda." He urged recipients to use the motorcycles solely for security operations, ensuring they reach designated outposts in rural areas.

In response, the Commandant General of the VGN, Navy Captain Abubakar Bakori Umar (retd), expressed gratitude for the motorcycles, which will enhance community security in the FCT. He assured the Minister that the motorcycles would be deployed judiciously to strengthen rural security and improve response times to incidents.

With the addition of these patrol motorcycles, the VGN anticipates increased operational efficiency, emphasizing their commitment to supporting the police and other agencies in maintaining security in the FCT's rural areas.
