The Federal High Court in Abuja has set May 30 as the date for ruling on an application for the release on bail of Bello Bodejo, the President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore. Bodejo is facing a three-count terrorism charge and has been in custody since January 23. He was arrested after unveiling a vigilante group at Miyetti Allah's office in Nasarawa State.
Despite a previous court order approving his detention, Bodejo's lawyers argued for his release pending the determination of the case, stating that the charges against him are bailable. They emphasized his presumption of innocence under the constitution and his willingness to comply with any bail conditions.
The prosecution opposed the bail application, citing national security concerns. They argued that Bodejo's establishment of an ethnic militia without authorization posed a threat to public safety. The prosecution also disputed claims about the severity of Bodejo's health issues, stating that his condition has been effectively managed by the detention facility's medical center.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court adjourned the matter for ruling. Bodejo faces charges related to the establishment of the ethnic militia, which is alleged to have violated the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
