The family of the late movie star, John Ikechukwu Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, has announced June 28 as the date for his burial. The burial will be held in his hometown of Amuri, in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State. The announcement was made in a statement jointly signed by Elder Sunday Okafor, Mr. Ibu’s elder brother, and his immediate family, who expressed pride in Mr. Ibu's accomplishments during his lifetime.
The statement, released by the Burial Planning Committee Chairman, Monday Diamond Ani, invited friends, family, and well-wishers to join them in honoring Mr. Ibu's memory. The family described Mr. Ibu as a hero and legend who had brought pride to his home community, Enugu, Nigeria, and Africa as a whole. They requested the presence of all to celebrate the life of their son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and in-law.
The burial ceremony is scheduled to begin on June 25 with a high-profile novelty match, followed by "Mr. Ibu’s Night" on June 26, which will include a candlelight procession and live entertainment. On June 27, a Christian wake will be held at his compound in Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West, leading up to the funeral service on June 28. The five-day ceremony will conclude on June 30 with a Church thanksgiving for family, friends, and well-wishers.
