The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed that an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) crashed near Rumji village, about 15 km from its base in Kaduna, early Monday morning. The clarification came from NAF spokesperson, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, on July 1, following erroneous reports that a helicopter had crashed.
Gabkwet emphasized that since the crash involved a UAV, there were no casualties on board or on the ground. A preliminary investigation has commenced to determine the cause of the crash.

He criticized the hasty reporting by some media outlets, which initially claimed a helicopter crash without verifying facts from NAF. Gabkwet urged the media to prioritize accuracy and seek clarifications from authorized military sources before publishing news.
"Nigerians can rest assured that this minor setback will not, in any way, impinge on all ongoing operations," Gabkwet stated. He called for adherence to the principles of balanced reporting, fairness, and developmental journalism.
