NAFDAC

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered a fake bottled water syndicate operating at the Pipeline Road axis of Eneka in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State. Acting on a tip-off from vigilant members of the public, NAFDAC officials swiftly investigated the matter.

According to Mr. Cyril Monye, the NAFDAC Public Relations Officer for the South-South Zone, the suspects were using a run-down shop disguised as a pool house for their illicit production. One distributor was apprehended while attempting to sell the adulterated water, which was being filled in used Eva plastic bottles with contaminated water sourced from a paint bucket. The filtration process involved using a dirty rubber funnel covered with clothing material.

The arrested distributor, identified as Chibunna James, was caught red-handed loading the counterfeit product for sale. However, the main culprit behind the operation is currently at large, and efforts are underway to locate and apprehend him. The NAFDAC Coordinator in Rivers State, Emmanuel Onogwu, urged the public to continue providing useful information to help clamp down on criminals engaged in the adulteration and counterfeiting of regulated products.

The fake products, consisting of 30 packs, were seized and taken to the NAFDAC office
