The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in Bauchi State has initiated a three-day operation aimed at removing fake Milo chocolate drinks from circulation in markets across the state. Dr. Paul Kamai, the Bauchi State Coordinator of NAFDAC, disclosed this on Wednesday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi.
The operation, which began on Tuesday, involves inspections in markets and superstores to identify and eliminate counterfeit Milo products. The exercise follows a directive from NAFDAC's headquarters, emphasizing the agency's commitment to safeguarding public health by ensuring the authenticity of food and beverage products in the market.
Dr. Kamai also announced that NAFDAC has scheduled an engagement with the leadership of the Agro Chemical Dealers Association within the week. The meeting will focus on the dangers of using certain banned chemicals, such as Dictholoruvis and Paraquat, for food storage as the harvest season approaches. These chemicals have been prohibited due to their harmful effects.
Additionally, Kamai urged bakers and packaged water producers in Bauchi State to renew their operational licenses within the stipulated two-year timeline. Failure to do so could result in penalties that may disrupt business operations. He also encouraged small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to register their products with NAFDAC, which would help integrate their offerings into the Nigerian market.
