The naira strengthened in the parallel market on Thursday, appreciating to ₦1,382 per dollar from ₦1,391 recorded on Wednesday.
However, the story was slightly different at the official window. In the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM), the currency weakened marginally. Data released by the Central Bank of Nigeria showed that the indicative exchange rate rose to ₦1,361 per dollar, compared to ₦1,359.5 the previous day — a ₦1.5 depreciation.
As a result of the gains in the parallel market and the slight dip at the official window, the gap between both markets narrowed significantly. The spread reduced to ₦21 per dollar from ₦31.5 recorded on Wednesday.
